C'est moi, l'homme de carpe!
Hi, my name is Daniel. I am a father of a very energetic 8 year old boy. I was born in East Germany, but my family left before the wall came down. We resettled in Southwest Germany. During a one-year high school exchange program in Santa Rosa, CA, I learned English and fell in love with the American way of live. After finishing up high school back in Germany, I started to study computer science at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, AR. I got married and turned into an Arkansan. Due to some issues with my application for permanent residency, we left and moved to Belize in Central America. After a bit over a year, we went back to Arkansas, but immigration problems continued and ended in my deportation back to Germany. My family followed me and we then spent a year WWOOFing in Canada before briefly returning to Germany. We now WWOOF in France while working on my immigration paperwork to go back to Arkansas. That was the shortest summary I’ve ever written. A longer version is here: My Story: I am coming out of the closet.
I am an outdoor person and enjoy nothing more than spending time outdoors. I love going fishing. My favorite fish are catfish. But right now I have to settle for carp. I also enjoy photography while hiking around the country side. I can’t imagine not living out in the country. And along with that way of live goes my interests in gardening and do-it-yourself projects. Out of necessity I have become quite the handyman and novice car mechanic. I’d rather have a new car, but until I can afford one, I have to keep my old one running. And yes, you guessed it, I am a Chevy man. My Silverado is sleeping somewhere in Arkansas.
Back in Arkansas I built and sold top bar hives and discovered the joy in beekeeping. I don’t have any bees right now, but still try to read about bees. I never watch TV, but do like watching DVDs. Lately I find myself watching more and more documentaries. I have a strong background in computer programming. I specialize in mysql, php and perl. I am in the process of learning Flash.
While in Canada I started to play with the idea of learning how to sail and to sail around the world. You can blame Bob Bitchin and his Latts and Atts magazine for that idea. But that sailing project is on hold as I had to leave my boat in Canada.
So here in France I keep myself busy with handyman projects to fix up the place we live in. I go fishing for carp and perch and some day soon will take a trip to the nearest catfish-holding river. I consider our France stay very temporary, but it’s hard not to settle down.
